Plain-language summary

Trace is a journal. Your writing is personal data. We do not sell it. We collect the minimum needed to provide the service and keep it reliable.

1. Information we collect

  • Account info: first name, last name, and email address needed to create your account and keep entries associated with it.
  • Journal content: text you write, titles you add, moods/gratitude entries, and songs you associate with moments.
  • App diagnostics: limited logs and performance data (e.g., crash reports) collected by Apple or our hosting providers to fix bugs and improve stability.

2. How we use information

  • Provide the core product (saving entries and syncing if enabled).
  • Keep accounts secure and prevent abuse.
  • Improve reliability and fix bugs.
  • Communicate with you about your account and support requests.

3. Legal bases for processing (EEA/UK)

If you are in the EEA/UK, we process your data based on: (a) performance of a contract (providing Trace), (b) legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, and service improvement), and (c) consent where required.

4. Selling and sharing

We do not sell your journal content. We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited information with service providers strictly to operate the app (e.g., infrastructure and email delivery), under confidentiality and security obligations.

5. Data retention

We retain your data for as long as your account remains active or as needed to provide the service. You may request deletion of your account and associated content.

6. Your choices and rights

  • Data export is not available yet. When it ships, you’ll be able to request a copy of your data via support.
  • Request account deletion.
  • Update your account information by contacting support.
  • If you are in the EEA/UK, you have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to object to processing or request data portability where applicable.
  • EEA/UK users can withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
  • You can lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

7. International transfers

If you access Trace from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States. We take steps to protect data transferred internationally.

8. Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information. No system is perfect, but we treat journal content as sensitive by default.

9. Age restrictions

Trace is intended for users 17 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date shows when changes were made.
